1. Confirm the offer and collection details
Before booking pickup, confirm the agreed amount, payment method, appointment window and whether the offer depends on an in-person condition check.
Tell the buyer immediately if the vehicle condition, location or access has changed since the photos were sent.
2. Prepare the paperwork
Have the vehicle portion of the Ontario permit and the agreed sale documents ready. Make sure the VIN on the vehicle matches the paperwork.
Ontario requirements can vary by transaction type. Confirm what the buyer needs before the appointment and keep a copy of every signed document.
3. Remove personal items and licence plates
Empty the glove box, trunk, console and door pockets. Remove toll transponders, parking passes, garage remotes and any saved personal information in the infotainment system.
Ontario licence plates stay with the owner, not the vehicle. Remove them before the vehicle leaves and retain the plate portion of the permit.
4. Make the vehicle accessible
Leave enough space for safe loading. Unlock gates and confirm any building, repair-shop or storage-yard access rules before the appointment.
For a non-running car, disclose flat tires, locked wheels, broken steering, missing keys or a blocked parking position. Do not attempt an unsafe move just to make pickup easier.
5. Complete the handover and keep records
Review the final terms before signing. Do not release the vehicle until the agreed payment and paperwork steps are complete.
Keep the bill of sale, payment record, buyer information and copies of the transfer documents. Contact your insurer after the sale is complete to update or cancel coverage as appropriate.
